With 25 years of focused telecom expense management experience – our team has fined tuned the process of telecom auditing processes. Over the years we’ve developed a keen eye for spotting telecom invoice errors, and we’ve created a process that ensures we don’t miss anything along the way. Here is a sneak peak into our methodology for capturing and recouping credits during audits. The process is multi-step, and starts on day-one of a client engagement with a deep dive into the contracts and invoices.
But before I dig into our auditing methodology – let’s talk about the different types and methodologies of telecom audits. Truly they come in all different shapes, sizes and applications. Let’s dive into methodology first.
Audit Methodology – here’s a quick snapshot at how we perform audits.
Physical Audit – a technician comes on site, and plugs into the demarcation point. From here, the technician determines which lines are active and which are not.
Invoice Audit – In many cases, a physical audit is not necessary – it can be overkill. Instead a contract and invoice audit is completed, and an inventory is built by carefully examining the line items in the client’s contracts and invoices.
On to the type of different audits available. Which type of audit your organization chooses will depend on the size of your environment, when the last time an audit was performed….and of course, budget.
Types of Invoice Audits
Historical Audit – A historical audit is a look back at past invoices to check for errors. It’s a quick snapshot, typically 3-6 months of historical invoices are reviewed. If we find something particularly alarming or incorrect, we may dig deeper to find more savings.
Contingency or One Time Audit – Are offered by many consultants and TEM firms. It’s a one-time situation for a telecom expert to come in house for a short term project. They take a look into the current environment and make recommendations for lines to be disconnected and credits to be requested, and is really just an in-time snapshot of your situation.
On-Going Audit – Valicom specializes in on-going audits. This allows us to have the biggest impact on your telecom spending. Why? Essentially we are doing audits continuously, closely monitoring invoices for a higher level of control and optimization every month. This continuous monitoring of the environment allows our team to spot errors and red flags quickly and accurately.
