Telecom Invoice Processing is not for the faint of heart.
Processing thousands of invoices for several carriers each month can be an overwhelming and daunting task. Today we’ll share several of our tips for telecom invoice processing.
But before we begin... what is telecom invoice processing? Generally it is a service where a TEM firm takes receipt of an organization’s telecom invoices and makes this data available for other purposes (see below!). When TEM software is involved with the telecom invoice processing flow, it is called “data loading”, as the invoice detail is transferred to the software database to be utilized in a variety of ways.
Give me the tips!
Find a tool. Step away form the Excel spreadsheet. We’ve said it before, specialized telecom software exists that will give you the exact functionality you need to properly process telecom invoices. Consider our web-based invoice processing tool, Clearview, or find many more here.
Create a process.
You’d be surprised how many organizations do not have a dedicated or documented work flow for telecom invoice processing. A particularly painful story for me to tell you is an organization that would recieve telecom invoices, and pay them without review – if the fee was within 20% of the previous month. Consider the compound impact of this practice! Ouch!
Keep an eye out for errors.
There’s something to be said for knowing what you’re looking for on a telecom invoice. Here’s a few of the things we look for and dispute: 3rd party billing, low or no usage lines, inside wire maintenance, LD calls on LEC invoices, and many more!
Enlist a team.
Maybe in-house telecom invoice processing is just not in the cards for you. Find a dedicated outsourced service to perform the task on your behalf. A TEM firm can receive your invoices via mail, EDI, or carrier portal, and review, approve, and pay them for you. Painless!
